"Hi Aileen, I do not expect you to remember who we are as I know you have seen numerous people in many areas through the years, but I really hope you do not mind me sending you this message. I could not pass by without sending you a little note of appreciation. I am and always will be truly grateful for your caring nature, your understanding, and determination in relation to the care and attention you gave to my son many years ago. Without your help, support, and advice through the years, I do not think I would be as strong as I am today.

You made the discovery of his deafness as easy as it could be and pointed us in the direction needed in order to give him the best options in life and the choice of two worlds. I really do owe you a lot; I know you probably just think it's your job, but you went above and beyond in my mind, as I am sure you do with all your patients. I was very disappointed I didn't make it back to see you before you moved on, hence this little note I am sending you now.

It is because of your determination and actions on day one with my son that I am happy to say he has just undergone his bilateral implant last month, and he is the happiest little boy. He received his first one last year just before his first year of primary school and now is starting with both, but more importantly, a whole new world ahead of him. Without your actions, we may not have been so lucky to get them and meet the wonderful team in the Cochlear Department. Prior to the last surgery, upon every visit, he asked for you—you left a lasting impression on us all.
